Upcoming Malta Events – May/June

  • May 18, 2019

What is happening in Malta these coming months?

Spring into Summer is always a busy time in Malta, and as the weather starts to get warmer, the outdoor events start to crop up again. There are some events that take place every year and are much anticipated, and others are a once in a lifetime opportunity to take part. Here are a handful of our favourite May/June 2019 Malta events:

Malta Fashion Week – 22nd May – 29th May

Now in its 20th year, Malta Fashion Week and Fashion Awards is a highlight of the cultural calendar for showcasing some of the best international designers and fashion houses. There are shows of talent from Spain, Nigeria, Russia, Switzerland to name a few… Malta Fashion Week has an impressive list of sponsors including Jaguar, Land Rover and Campari. The event opens with a Private Pool Party in Sliema, the main shows take place within the historical backdrop of Fort St Elmo and run until the 29th May. The awards night is open to all and takes place at Pjazza Tritoni, home of the Triton Fountain in Valletta.

For the main shows, there are a variety of ticket choices available, from VIP front row seats, to affordable seating for €10 and a handful of Free Invites that can be applied for on the website (not guaranteed).

Earth Garden, 30th May – 3rd June 2019

Earth Garden is a brilliant and eclectic family-friendly world music festival that hosts acts from around the globe, with a huge line up spread over 5 stages at Ta Qali National Park. Kids under 12 are allowed free entry and there’s plenty to do. Earth Garden has all the expected features of a fun filled festival for happy vibes and warm weather – a campsite,

healing fields, a music playground, ethnic market and fun park. Expect electro, funk, blues, hip hop, techno, ska… in fact expect anything.

Malta International Arts Festival 28th June – 14th July

The arts festival is two weeks’ worth of contemporary music, theatre and dance performances from diverse acts, at a selection of venues across Malta. One of the most unique experiences this year is “Harbour Odyssey” a sunset-tour performance on a boat that sails across the Grand Harbour. Guests can join the intimate boat trip and will be accompanied by circus acts, musicians, acrobats and actors. Also on the water theme, is a spellbinding underwater performance from five musicians submerged in tanks. For a full programme of performance dates and times, visit the Malta Festivals website.

Your Stay In Malta During Festival Time

If you’re visiting for Malta Fashion Week then you’ll need to stay somewhere stylish and the boutique hotel Casa Ellul in the heart of Valletta certainly won’t disappoint. Each suite is uniquely designed with a twist of historical and modern décor. If you’ve been busy dancing the weekend away and camping at Earth Garden, finish the week off in luxury with one of Casa Ellul’s rooftop jacuzzi suites. Or, for the arts festival, the Piano Nobile suite is perfect for performing your favourite music to follow on from the inspiring acts you’ll see. And just moments from the Grand Harbour too, where many of the acts take place and so easily accessible from everywhere in Malta, Valletta is the ideal hub to travel from.
