...brimming with unspoilt beaches!

This island is 3.5 square kilometres total. However, don’t be fooled by its size: Comino is brimming with unspoilt beaches, historic landmarks and enviable hiking trails. Best of all, it’s only 20 minutes away from Malta, so you definitely have no excuse not to visit.

Here are 5 quintessentially Comino activities that you need to experience during your Mediterranean jaunt.

A swim at the Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon is Comino’s principal attraction. Its crystalline waters are picture-perfect, and the surrounding jagged cliffs are an adrenaline junkie’s paradise. Its reputation precedes it, so the Blue Lagoon is usually super overcrowded in summer. We strongly suggest that you go there early to find a spot and enjoy your slice of paradise!

comino caves

Dive through the underwater caves

Comino’s underwater world is simply spectacular. The labyrinth of caves houses thousands upon thousands of flora and fauna – some of which are endemic to the islands.

Diving here is a must. Don’t be deterred if you’re still a newbie – you can sign up for a diving tour organised by one of the islands’ many diving schools for an extra helping hand.

Visit the historic Saint Mary’s tower

If Saint Mary’s Tower could speak, it would have loads of stories to tell. It’s a relic from another era – the Knights Templar era – and it’s as majestic today as it was then. It was originally used as a communication tower but at different points throughout Malta’s rich history, the tower also housed livestock and was a quarantine hospital. Nowadays, it’s admired by history aficionados who trek all the way to the tower to witness its architectural splendour.

Go on a hike

If you’re visiting Comino during early spring, late autumn or winter, hiking is an excellent way of exploring this tiny island. And if you’re a birdwatcher, you’re in for a treat. Comino happens to be a designated bird sanctuary as it houses the Yelkouan Shearwater and is also a resting place for migratory birds.

Explore the coastline

What better way to explore the coastline than to sail around Comino? Booking a half-day charter is the best way to traverse Comino’s less touristic spots – meaning that you can enjoy a crystalline dip without any interruptions!
