...a city-wide festival!
Notte Bianca is officially back in 2022! The annual event takes place on October 1st and promises to be the most spectacular yet. The city-wide festival is a celebration of culture, art and light and is definitely worth visiting if you happen to be in Malta this October!
What happens during Notte Bianca?
Notte Bianca is organised by Festivals Malta and is one of the biggest cultural festivals on the islands. Every year, on the first Saturday of October, the cityscape of Valletta lights up with music, theatre, dance, art and lights. From City Gate to Fort St. Elmo, Valletta comes alive and offers an unforgettable experience for festival goers.
During Notte Bianca, Valletta’s museums, churches, streets, piazzas and palaces are transformed into venues. Moreover, cafes and restaurants are open till early in the morning, so festival goers can satiate their appetite with quality Mediterranean food even in the wee hours.
The Notte Bianca concept originated in 1997 in Berlin. This was replicated in Paris and Rome, and since then the concept has gained a lot of popularity in Europe.
Notte Bianca has been running in Malta since 2005. Since then, it has hosted thousands of Maltese and international artists. Not only is it an entertaining night for cultural aficionados, it also highlights the special relationship between Maltese artists and their audience.
